Head out to the Curt Gowdy State Park, located in-between Cheyenne and Laramie, for a beautiful mountain retreat. Get back in harmony with Mother Nature in this 3,400-acre park and reservoir; this nature preserve is bounding with all sorts of plant and wildlife, as well as an “Epic” trail system, granite outcroppings (perfect for climbing), and aquatic and outdoor activities.

Get active outdoors along the Dry Creek Parkway, a wide but linear park with an expansive bike trail and disc golf (also known as Frisbee golf) course. Like the Greater Cheyenne Greenway, this park’s trails are expanding and growing in popularity. Walk, play and explore the area following the creek, which forms a few lakes and ponds along the way.

Lincoln Park is a wonderful example of Cheyenne’s smaller neighborhood parks. Although not as large as the community or state parks, this little park still brings quite a bit of great outdoors to the city-dwellers. Enjoy the greenery of the park at one of the picnic areas, play a game of basketball on the public court, let the children have fun in their play area and cool down in the summer at Johnson Pool.

Inside the Medicine Bow - Routt National Forest, you’ll find Vedauwoo. This outdoor site contains rocky outcropping of boulders, slabs and cliffs perfect for hiking and rock climbing. The weathered Sherman granite in the Land of the Earthborn Spirit makes for some of the best wide crack climbing (offwidths) in the world. Feel free to bring a tent as well, since the area also contains a convenient campground.
